Selling an original acrylic painting of The Tay Bridge looking from Dundee across to Fife. This painting is produced on 280g stretched canvas using gouache paints.
The Tay Bridge connects The Kingdom of Fife with the City of Dundee. The bridge is most famous for the rail disaster of 1879 where 90 people died. The poem by William McGonagall's is his most well-known work and has been lampooned by critics as one of the worst poems in the English language. I personally love the poem and it inspired my painting.
It begins:
"Beautiful railway bridge of the silv'ry Tay
Alas! I am very sorry to say
That ninety lives have been taken away
On the last sabbath day of 1879
Which will be remember'd for a very long time."
My main inspiration for my work is architectural landscapes and I try not to draw or paint traditional postcard landmarks. I am a lecturer in Construction and the Built Environment and I use my work to hopefully inspire my students.
