Traditional Tibetan bell with dorje as a set.
The bell 2024 is quite exceptional, as it is particularly finely crafted. It is older, I guess about 30 years old. It has a beautiful, pure sound and when moved strongly it gives an enormous volume.
The bell is decorated with a Tibetan mantra and small confession Buddhas in various mudras. Everything has been extraordinarily finely and cleanly worked out. In the handle of the bell is depicted Avalokitesvara.
Traditionally, the dorje is used to strike the bell. The dorje is also very finely handcrafted.
The combination of the dark bronze and fire-gilded brass handle and dorje together with the mantra looks particularly noble! The Gantha and the Dorje are very heavy and massive. Both came from a small Tibetan store in Boudhanath, Nepal. The bell was cast from bell bronze, carefully turned and reworked by hand. Of course everything is beautifully solid! The so-called "handle" can be removed from the bell body.
In Tibet, the bell (ganta) embodies the female pole, while the dorje manifests the male energy. In Buddhist rituals, both instruments are always used together. The dorje is not used to strike the bell, but is held in the right hand while the left is used to ring the bell. Translated, the dorje means "thunderbolt" or "diamond scepter". Traditionally, it is considered a "tantric energy device" that can absorb cosmic energy and release it into the environment. In feng shui, both are used to "cleanse" space. In general, it spreads good energy!
