Ring Blue Sapphire filigree Ring eco-friendly sterling silver 1/2 ct September Birthstone - Custom Made in your 2024 Size -lab grown- Faithful
The stone is a beautiful 5mm, half carat lab grown conflict free sapphire. I can make one with an ethical natural sapphire if you prefer.
The setting (top part) is cast and I applied the band to that. I can set the stone of your choice in this ring. Just email to have me research prices.
PLEASE leave your ring size in the notes during Etsy checkout. :)
I will make a ring like this for you in your size ! It will take about 3 to 5 days to complete it - most of this time is just in the tumblers to harden the metal after the heat of my torch softens it. (If I need to order special stones, it will take longer, but I am usually happy to do that.)
All metal is .925 sterling silver from reclaimed/recycled sources. It is eco friendly and guilt free.
The stones we use are all ethically mined/made and cut, Fair Trade and guilt free as well. :)
I can make a similar ring in yellow gold too.

The difference in earth mined sapphire and lab grown sapphire is sometimes vague.
They are identical chemically and the MOHs hardness is the same, as is the refractive index. The big difference is that they are ALWAYS conflict free - and, of course, the price. Since many of the lab grown gems can now compare so well with the finest earth mined, Jewelers with a loupe or even a microscope cannot always tell the difference.
Sapphire gemstones symbolize truth, faithfulness and honesty. They increase the ability to communicate, release depressive moods and bring calmness, mental clarity, clear vision and peace.
Sapphire has long symbolized truth, sincerity, and faithfulness.
Tradition holds that Moses was given the ten commandments on tablets of sapphire, making it the most sacred gemstone.
Because sapphires represent divine favor, they were the gemstone of choice for kings and high priests. The British Crown Jewels are full of large blue sapphires, the symbol of pure and wise rulers.
Since sapphire symbolizes sincerity and faithfulness, it is an excellent choice for an engagement ring. When Prince Charles chose a sapphire engagement ring for Princess Diana, couples all over the world were inspired to revive this venerable tradition.
Sapphire is also the birthstone for September, the month when the most babies are born. Ancient lists also name sapphire as a birthstone for April and the gemstone for the sign of Taurus.
The very first sapphires were believed to have been discovered in the Roman Empire, and were initially considered to be forms of jacinth rather than stones unto themselves. There are many scholars and theologians that speculate that sapphire may have had its roots in biblical history-a history which spans over 6,000 years. It's said that the Ten Commandments, written by God himself on Mt. Sinai and given to Moses, were composed of sapphire so strong that a hammer would be smashed to pieces before the commandments could be damaged.
Further mention of sapphires supposedly occurs in the book of Exodus, where sapphire refers to the stone on the Ephod which represents the tribe of Issachar; however, this is highly controversial among scholars, who will be the first to say that in truth, it's all lost in translation. In the Hebrew translation of the Bible the word sapir is used, a precursor to sapphire by way of the Greek word sapphiros. Sapphiros was, at that time, a generic term for blue gems in general and far more likely to be referring to lapis lazuli, which was frequently sent as a gift between middle-eastern nations during that time frame.
If you follow the history of the word sapphire back a little farther, you'll find another story of its origin. Buddhist monks first introduced the blue sapphire as sani piriya, from the Sanskrit sani, meaning Saturn, and priya (beloved). Sapphire is strongly associated with Saturn, and has been attributed with the ability to grant its wearer mental clarity and with the ability to heal asthma, cancer, problems associated with blood pressure and jaundice.
Sapphire has long been known for its mystical qualities, believed to put the wearer that much closer to heaven. Sapphire rings have been popular since the Middle Ages, when the members of the clergy wore them as a physical representation of heaven and magicians wore them to help them command the spirits. Others with the means to do so wore the rings to ward off sickness, including the plague.
Blue sapphire is the preferred hue of the gemstone for some fifty percent of the population, which makes it among the most popular stones in the world. The blue sapphire is specifically associated with feelings of sympathy and harmony, friendship and loyalty-composure, mutual understanding and indestructible trust. The blue of the sapphire has come to be associated with everything that is constant and reliable-“true blue”.
As sapphire is a symbol of constancy, it is no wonder that in many countries it is sapphire rather than diamonds that adorn a woman's hands following her engagement. It is a further pledge of her intended's devotion to her and her marriage, and a tangible symbol of their longing for each other.
Sapphire is one of two gem varieties of the species corundum, and although blue is the best known hue sapphire can occur in nature in every color (although red corundum is referred to as ruby rather than red sapphire). The various shades of blue found in blue sapphire result from titanium and iron substitutions in the aluminum oxide crystal lattice.
Sapphires rank as a 9 on the Mohs scale, meaning that the only stone in the world harder than a sapphire is a diamond. This is another characteristic that has made sapphires so extraordinarily popular with jewelers and wearers alike; sapphires require only minimal care on the part of their owner, and therefore are fantastic gemstones for anyone with a tendency to be hard on their jewelry.
Sapphires have been found around the world, including Kashmir, Myanmar, Sri Lanka (the birthplace of the Star of India, the largest sapphire in the world believed to have been formed two billion years ago in Sri Lanka and stolen from the New York Museum of National History in 1964, the Logan Sapphire, the second largest sapphire in the world at 423 carats and currently on display with the Smithsonian Insitution, and the Star of Bombay, one of the most famous star sapphires in the world gifted to silent film star Mary Pickford by her husband and later bequeathed to the Smithsonian as well), Australia, Thailand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Tanzania, Kenya and China. Sapphires have also been found in various regions of the United States, particularly in the El Dorado Bar and the Spokane Bar deposits near Helena, Montana.
It is the tiny island of Madagascar, however, that leads the world in sapphire production. In the city of Ilakaka sapphires can be found everywhere-including the ground and in the river mud. It is not unheard of for a day of fishing to turn into a day of discovery!
Sapphires have a place of honor in England, where they adorn the cross on the Imperial State Crown and have marked the engagement of both the Lady Diana and the Princess Anne. Today they can be found in rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, toe rings, lockets and anywhere else a gemstone may happen to be found.
