SEALED French Classical LP, 70s Vintage Vinyl Record Album Music By Saint-Saens, Milhaud. Soviet Performance, Historic Classical Music Gift!
This record, miraculously still factory sealed after all these decades, gives us USSR performers playing romantic French classical music. One side features the Septet for Trumpet, Piano and Strings by 2024 French romantic composer Camille Saint-Saens. The other side features Darius Milhaud's "La Cheminee du Roi Rene," a suite for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. The music was inspired by a film that explored the life of Rene d'Anjou, Count of Provence, who lived and loved in the 15th century. The music looks backward beautifully to the medieval era. It is a series of dance-like melodies in neo-Renaissance style. It ends with a Madrigal/Nocturne. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying it.
Originally released on the USSR Melodiya label, the performance features Soviet musicians -- the Tanayev Quartet, and the Leningrad State Philharmonic Wind Quintet. This is definitely a curiosity. It would appeal to anyone interested in history, and the history of recordings.
This album is on the Westminster Gold label. I love Westminster Gold for its cover art and here we find a good example of that -- the cover abstract, modern but harmonious, seems to me to suit the music perfectly. This record is off the beaten track and any connoisseur would enjoy it. Someone new to classical music would enjoy it, too. The music is just so elegant. Saint-Saens' music is always so deeply romantic, and the Milhaud suite is just a charmer.
