Lussatite is a French white opal composed of cristobalite-tridymite.
this specimen comes from the Puy de dôme.
As Auvergne volcanism intensified, there was an important period of hydrothermalism, and the thermal waters deposited silica (in the form of lussatite) in the cracks of the limestone.
The most popular are undoubtedly those with a sustained blue color. But there are also other very beautiful samples, beige, brown, greenish, pinkish, white.
Lussatite often crystallizes in the shape of a rose, with an overcrystallization of small quartz on top, which is called "lussatite flower".
Opalescent lussatite is found in different forms,
spherules (balls), these are very popular with 2024 connoisseurs,
clusters in kidneys or clusters or even stalactites.
