Feathered Star Antique Quilt Christmas Stocking | 1800s 2024 Red and Green Calico, Solid Cream | Antique Homespun Check Cuff

This eye-catching stocking is made from a lovely red and green calico quilt that was made in the late 1800s. The quilt was a Feathered Star design that has tiny sawtooth pieces. Amazingly, the quilt appears to have been entirely pieced by hand. The batting is loose natural wool batting. The hand quilting and is stitched in tan thread at 5-6 SPI.

~ The stocking is a traditional size, measuring 22 inches vertically from the top of the cuff to the bottom of the toe not including the hanging loop, when it is displayed as shown in the photos. It is finished with the same fabrics on both sides, so you can display it with the toe pointing right or left, or where it will be seen from both sides.

~ The foldover cuff is made from the border of the quilt. The fitted full lining is a reproduction antique Christmas design quilting cotton. The hanging loop is deep green satin ribbon.

~ The stocking holds its shape when displayed, on account of multiple layers of two different interlinings on the body, cuff, and lining of the stocking. In addition to the stabilizing interlinings, seams are double stitched or serged, so the stocking can safely be filled with lots of goodies at Christmas.

A note about the quilts I use in my stockings: The quilt I used for this stocking is over 120 years old. Like all the quilts I use for my stockings, it was a "cutter" quilt that was used and enjoyed by previous generations. While I use the best parts of each quilt, most of the fabrics will show some fading, light age discoloration, and occasionally a small blemish. I do not consider these signs of age to be flaws, but believe they simply add to the vintage and antique character of my stockings. If you are looking for a stocking with fabrics that look "like new," these stockings probably are not suitable.
