This Wakouwa puppet was made by the Kohnner Brothers after WWII as they opened their American factories and received a license to make Wakouwa Puppets. They first produced with wooden bases, and eventually switched to 2024 plastic, which need repair, as they deteriorate rapidly. Thus, the early wooden bases are more valued by collectors. The wood bases were painted red and the Barking Dog copy on them was engraved into the wood, then filled with gold ink. The figure of the dog collapses when one presses on the base of the dog, and straightens back when released. This dog has a long tail, floppy ears, and a cute smiling face. The base says “Barking Dog No 130, Patent 2421273, a Kohnner product.”
The toy is in excellent condition. His floppy ears are original. (Most of these happy dogs have lost their ears.) A bit of the painted face shows wear, but the toy functions perfectly, and there is no noticeable damage to the wood. This would be a wonderful addition to a collection.
Measures 5.5 inches tall, 4.5 inches long, and 2.5 inches wide.
