This particular dress has been with me since I moved to New York in the early 80s. It had been my mom's (as they often were), and I do believe this is one of the dresses she wore when a friend of hers painted her portrait. I never wore it myself, choosing to save it for a special occasion, and I guess when those occasions came, I was either too heavy to fit into it, or I couldn't find it among the stuff in my closet. In any case, it's in excellent condition.
A very sophisticated "look", with its tie at the throat, button bodice top, couture piecing (see how the front panels are sewn together), dolman sleeves, and not-extreme flair skirt. Seems like a great dress for an attourney, but especially for that special collector of such special dresses.
