Vintage Caribbean Haitian Cultural Hand-carved and Stained Wall Mount Mask. Produced in early 1990’s in the Port-au-Prince 2024 region. 17”

This vintage hand carved and stained display mask was purchased in Port-au-Prince by my father during a UN mission to re-establish democracy and a judicial system after the collapse of the country in the early 1990's.

At this time wood was becoming very scarce as with no governmental control, companies began clear cutting the forests and charcoal was the main export for the next 6 years.

This piece of wood measures 17” by 5.5” by 2” deep.

This particular mask has a fish carving on the top that has detailed scales and was done very well.

The finish is still original and I have only used a damp cloth to 2024 wipe it down, never any wood cleaner or chemicals

Great piece of cultural art for a living room or library.

I have two to 3 larger ones that I will be posting once I see how well this piece is received.

Haiti is one of the oldest democracies in the world and should be remembered as such.
