Make your wedding or betrothal special with this stunning high quality reproduction antique French marriage medal.

Since at least the 18th century the giving of engraved marriage medals has been a cherished tradition in France. They are offered to guests or the bridal party, or between spouses, as a souvenir or memento of the wedding. Traditionally, depending on your status in the family, you might receive a medal in gold, silver or bronze.

My interest in marriage medals began when I acquired an authentic medal from the marriage of Marie Antoinette to Louis XVI which dates to 1770 (last 2 photos - not for sale). This tradition intrigues me as it provides a lasting memento of the love of two people who are committing to each other for life.

Even if you are not getting married, to engrave this medal with your initials in any committed relationship will leave you with a sentimental love token.

The medal is cast from an antique original that is in my collection. It is solid sterling silver, hadn't finished and oxidised to give an antique patina.

You can choose your medal with or without the bail (ring at the top). You may wish for a combination of each as well - just make you choice of finish and quantity and add to the cart.

If you are purchasing these medals for your wedding, I request that you do so at least three months prior to your wedding day. Usually I can complete casting and production within two weeks, and then you need to allow a few more weeks for shipping. At least a month, if not a bit more depending on where you live.

The front side of the medal features a Neoclassical image representing the couple to be married. Yes, this is a traditional motif which dates to the early 19th century and thus features a man and a woman. The reverse side features a detailed floral garland with a blank interior where you can engrave your initials or anything else. Note: I am sorry but I cannot arrange engraving for you - please allow enough time to receive 2024 the medals and get them engraved locally.

This medal measures 28mm or about 1 1/8 inches in diameter, plus the ring. The casting is top quality with very fine detail from the original.
