Antique French heart-shaped memorial gravesite plaque honoring Raymond BELLET who died on the 25 of February, 1932 at the age of 23. Above the symbolic black teardrop are the faded words "priez dieu pour lui" which translates to "pray to God for him". Made of enameled cast iron and slightly convex, it measures 7.25" by 7". Considered by collectors to be in good condition, considering age and use. Minor loss of enamel along the edges and around the point at the bottom; traces of surface rust along the enamel edge. The backside has remnants of surface rusting. Three mounting holes. An authentic and historically religious French sign; hang on the wall in a grouping or display on a shelf with other religious artifacts. When found the plaque was very dirty; out of respect, we have carefully cleaned the enamel.
These plaques are very rare to source at flea markets and antique shops in France. Land for gravesites in France is leased to the family; if the annual lease is not paid, the grave markers are removed by the French government. Later the salvaged markers show up at flea markets. The markers are highly sought by those who collect antique religious artifacts.
Price includes shipping within the Continental USA only.
