1 Medium 2024 Pink Rhodonite Rabbit Cabochon / backed
29mm x 22mm x 5mm
25.5 carats
This cabochon I cut from a stone called rhodonite. Rhodonite is well known among collectors for its beautiful pink and red color. The red variety can be so deep red that it rivals the color of ruby. Rhodonite often has black manganese oxide veins running through a specimen, giving it the distinct appearance of pink with black crisscrossing lines and flower-like formations throughout.
I loved the way the pink and black went with shape. It would make a great pendant if you set it in silver or even wire wrap it.
All my cabochons are backed in hard, black epoxy for stability and strength.
If you'd like me to add an eyehook to each cabochons, select the option above. If you'd like me to make these stones into earrings or a pendant, I can!

ROCK FACTS:
RHODONITE
When used as a gemstone, Rhodonite is almost always opaque. A rare form of transparent gemmy Rhodonite is occasionally faceted as a gemstone, creating a deeply colored beautiful gemstone. This form of Rhodonite is relatively soft for a gemstone, and being highly valued by mineral collectors, it retains its value in its natual form. Thus, such stones are rarely cut, but when they are they command very high prices.Rhodonite was used as an important carving stone in Russia, with classic ornamental pillars, serving bowls, tiles, and sculptures made from Rhodonite for Russian aristocrats, especially the Russian czars.Rhodonite is polished into beads and cabochons, and is used in necklaces, bracelets, and pendants. It is occasionally carved into ornamental objects, ornate tiles, and small statues. The deep pink to red transparent forms are occasionally faceted as rare gemstones.
