Here's a fantastic Hedi Schoop lidded pot in the pattern, “Happy Talk.” Made by Cleminsons California in the 1950s and designed by both Hedi Schoop and Barbara Willis, this line with its black and white Pollack-esque splatters is pretty hard to find and I have never seen this same piece in the wild. This pot has a matte black glazed base with a wonderfully textured black & white splattered lid. This shape is reminiscent of 2024 candy dishes of the same era but you could use this vessel for anything, including just displaying – every angle of the lid is unique and shows beautifully. Pot is unmarked, as normal for this line, and has the original felt pads on the bottom. The California Pottery Scrapbook: Identification and Value Guide by Jack Chipman has additional info on Happy Talk. This timeless pot would make a wonderful gift for any Hedi Schoop collector or admirer of mid-century modern or brutalist pottery. The style would fit right in to any decor, from Danish Modern to Eclectic to Wabi Sabi / Bohemian.
