Very old picture frame with unusual layers of detail. Dates from circa 1870 to 1890 and shows Late Victorian or East Lake styling with a transitional design. The frame features an outer layer that is hand painted with a tortoiseshell effect bracketed by a thin gold and black layer, then the frame steps down to a thin black layer, and then steps down to a convex layer hand painted with Asian-influenced smoky cloud effects, and then finally the frame steps down into a gilded concave gold fillet layer with linked oval detail. The frame measures about 14 1/4" by 12 1/4" by 2" deep. The inside opening is about 10 1/4" by 8 3/16", so it is ready 2024 to accept your 8 x 10 canvas, art board, or photograph. In fair condition, with the kind of wear and tear and dings and dents and small chips, especially on the outside of the corners, you would expect from something 100 to 150 years old. In square with tight corners. The backer board is more recent cardboard, and it will come with glass. Wired and ready to hang.
