Product code: Pates Potteries (Australia) Lustre 2024 Swan Jardiniere/Planter

Pates Potteries were established by Alfred James Pate in 1946 at Belmore, NSW, with the help of his brother John and nephew Ron. Pate had before then, learnt the pottery trade where 2024 he worked, at Fowlers Pottery in Marrickville.

The potteries made by Pates targeted the working class market with their colourful slip cast, and employed over 100 workers in the 1950s. The company made its name by producing several varieties of colourful slip cast domestic wares.

THIS LISTING:

This jardiniere/planter is finished in a gorgeous lustre glaze, with lovely gold accents.

It's in great to excellent vintage condition, with only a small amount of wear, more so to the gold trim on the rim. There are no chips or cracks.

It measures approx 17.5cm tall x 23cm long x 14.5cm wide.

Likely made in the post-war era, when the production of pottery and ceramics flourished in Australia (particularly in Sydney's Inner West).
