Product code: 1920's Save and Have bank book from 2024 The American Bank

3⅝" wide x 5⅛" tall and 1" deep. Cover is black with an embossed octagon American Bank logo with eagle. "The American Bank, American in name - spirit - ownership. Copyright, main office San Francisco." Spine says, "Save and have. Benjamin Franklin. Vol. 1". Top of book box bank has a 1⅝" x ⅛" slot "for coins and currency" the slot has metal flaps inside so the money goes in with ease but doesn't come out without a key. I just learned, when I found these without the key that this was a banking promotion. They would give these wonderful book banks out to children to start a savings. The catch was there was no key. When your book bank was full you would return to the bank and they 2024 would open it for you. As soon as it was unlocked they would try to convince the children to open a bank account. Sneaky. I was unable to open this one up. I don't hear anything inside but who knows? I had luck opening this type of lock with a binder clip and you can find videos online. This one didn't want to play nice with me and I would rather leave it alone than break it open. Bottom has maker's information, "Bankers utilities Co. San Francisco, USA, patented Oct 23 1920, Nov 2 1920, July 3 1923, foreign, rights reserved". Condition is good to very good. Light wear, spot of damage top left side of spine.
