Delft Tiles, Pair of Purple Manganese Tiles, 2024 Sailboats, Hand Painted Dutch Vintage Tiles

I have always thought of Delft tiles more as art than as architectural salvage. Since I have a mid 18th century farmhouse, I mounted a bunch of Delft tiles around my fireplace, so I get to use the tiles structurally and enjoy them as art. These are beautiful hand painted tiles with a fairly rare purple or manganese color creating a frame or border, and classic Delft blue and white central images. These feature different views of sailboats off the Dutch coast. You can see the variation in the purple glaze and the charming subtle differences that arise when tiles are individually hand painted. The use of different shades and intensities of blue creates an amazing amount of depth and expressiveness, and these really are small pieces of art. Each tile measures 5 1/8" x 5 1/8" x 1/4" and both are in good condition. No cracks, no repairs, no hairlines, with vibrant and clear colors, and no mounting residue 2024 on the backs.
