History

A standing or kneeling man holding a figurine of a god in his hands (the so-called teophor) was
one of the most popular types of sculpture images during the Late Period. This statue of the
priest Pefi is a typical example of plastic art of the 26th (Saite) dynasty. Characteristic features
include perfectly polished hard stone, idealized and generalized face, and the so-called pouch-
like wig on the priest's head.
