This sweet chubby-cheeked baby doll has an especially lovely bisque porcelain head with beautiful hand-painted features. The delicate features of this baby doll face will simply captivate you. The head measures about 3 1/4 inches from the top to where it is attached to the body. The circumference of the head is almost 9 inches. There are no chips on the porcelain, it is in excellent condition. The doll has blue glass eyes that are called 'googly-eyes' and they fully open and close. If you look closely at the photos you will see the tiny single brush strokes of the hand-painted eye lashes.
The bisque doll head was made by the distinguished Armand Marseille doll manufacturer in Germany (1885 - 1930). The head is attached to a stuffed body that has a crier box, which is not working. The stuffed body is old but I do not know if it is the original. The hands are a composite material and show deterioration as expected with age. I believe this doll is referred to as the Baby Phyllis model. The back of the head shows the A.M. mark and a faint imprint 'Germany' but I could not distinguish a model number. The total length of the doll is almost 11 inches. This baby doll is wearing a new custom-made long white cotton dressing gown with pretty eyelet details and blue trim and white ribbons from the waist. The slip underneath is white cotton with blue trim. On the stuffed body is a cotton diaper held on with a pin and stockings on the legs tied with ribbons. A covered wire cradle is included with the doll for display.
