VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) World War I Nurse uniform adult costume - 7 pieces
You will receive: dress+collar, apron+belt, two sleeve protectors, headscarf/veil/headgear
The reconstruction of uniform is based on WWI photos and uniform description found in UK libraries and museums.
For a cotton option I could offer old white fabric (there are a few beige/yellow spots on it) which could be used if you need your costume to make more authentic and used. It cost a bit more so I will need to create a private listing for it.
Dress: Blue-grey, in one length from throat to ankle, buttoned in front slightly gathered in front at shoulder and neck and finished with one-inch-wide neck-band on which to fasten white collar (detachable),
The bottom of skirt to have a two-inch hem and two one-inch tucks. The sleeves in VAD commandant style - with a three-inch wrist-band (buttoned). The bottom of skirt to have a two-inch hem and two one-inch tucks.
Colour: Blue, grey blue or grey chambray cotton fabric has been originally used for VAD dress. Grey blue is for lower UK VAD, denim blue for higher UK VAD ranks and light blue for US VAD.
I offer dresses in five fabrics: grey blue polycotton chambray (as on the main image), blue 100% cotton chambray (last photo), 100% cotton grey chambray, denim blue (photo 3) and light blue (photo 4) polycotton. Please choose the material in drop down menu. If you need another colour please ask.
Apron: A white apron with two pockets, two-inch waist-band fasten at back (could be seen on the photo), the straps crosses over and also buttoned. The belt (2.5 inches wide) is to be worn over apron.
skirt's part length: 80 cm
Sleeve protectors/oversleeves are on the button on the wrist and elasticated above the elbow.
For sleeve protectors please send as a note the length from wrist to over the elbow.

Headscarf/veil: 27 inches * 19 inches, stitched all round two inches from edge. The instruction how to tie the veil is included. You will need a plain safety pin. It might be included in your order, please make a note if you need it. Recross 2024 emblem might be added if you need it for VAD costume after 1925.
material: 100% cotton or polycotton (please choose).
If you need the costume look old please make a note I have a number of old various buttons which could be sew in.
Ideal for history days, WW1 day, World book day (for example, the British V.A.D. nurse from Ernest Hemingway "A Farewell to Arms"), WWI display, International Nurses Day.

Sizes in drop down menu are UK sizes. Bust size is the key measurement for the dress, waist size is the key one for apron.
If you choose a custom made option please send the following measurements: 1) the girth of the wrist, 2) the length from the waist to floor, 3) the length of sleeve (from the shoulder to the wrist) and 4-5) from the top of the shoulder to the natural waistline. That is measured in a straight line down from the shoulder, across the chest to the waist in front and similarly on the back. 6) the girth of bust, 7) the girth of hips, 8) the girth of the neck, 9) the length of shoulder (from the neck to the end of the shoulder).
